Tarot of the Week: Jan 18 – Jan 24, 2016 ~ The Devil
12 "You were the seal of perfection, Full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. 13 You were in Eden, the garden of God; Every precious stone was your covering: The sardius, topaz, and diamond, Beryl, onyx, and jasper, Sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold. The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes Was prepared for you on the day you were created. 14 You were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you; You were on the holy mountain of God; You walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones.” Ezekiel 28:12-14
That beautiful, deceptive, angel Lucifer who was thrown out from heaven is the Tarot of the week- The Devil. He is deliciously seductive, unbelievably manipulative, he is your dark side when you see him in a Tarot spread.
Take a close look at him. In Ciro Marchetti’s interpretation of the Devil — from the Gilded Tarot — you can see how the devil embodies power, power of fire, power of gold. His eyes are hidden as if to shield us from falling into some sort of dark madness. The devil’s chin his chiseled, his physic is perfection. He can easily fool us into believing he is here to offer light with all the fire around him.
What he does is give us a sense of security with his gold helmet and strong form. But underneath all that lie all insecurities.
When you see this card you should take an inventory to see what your pattern of thinking has been. You may have slipped into a dark habit of thinking that you need to break. An addiction to a substance or even a relationship may need to be evaluated. This is easy to do by going back to doing affirmations that bring you back to your own divinity. The Devil can serve as a reminder to look back at what is right in your life.
You may also do a moral inventory of yourself and perhaps discover that you’ve gotten stuck with an obsession. It could be a situation or endeavor or idea, or person that you’ve become obsessed with. You may become so obsessed in making more money or investing time at work, that you forget your relationships and most importantly yourself. Your obsession could be an addiction you are trying to conquer, but find challenging.
This card can also be a warning. The Devil is a temptation. You could be tempted to stay in a cycle of negative thinking which keeps you from seeing all options available. You could be tempted to cheat on your partner, or you could be tempted to fall off the wagon or cheat on your diet. This card is a warning, that your dark side may be lurking about.
The devil can represent hidden forces of negativity that hold you back and trick you into thinking that you are less than who you really are. The devil makes sure feel and stay stuck or feel restricted in your life. You could be feeling like outside forces are controlling you and you fall into hopelessness or worse “despair.”
The good news about Tarot readings, is that it can show you how to avert what may be coming your way or even what is holding you back inside. Revelations is what it’s about and it’s better to know you have a dark side or enemy so you can be prepared to put your best foot forward.
